about

Because we love you, you can download the opening track Blank Out for free.

“Memory Programme” is the debut album from Manchester (UK) based ReturnCodeZero. Greg Veryard has been honing his skills as a producer and a DJ for well over a decade. His passion for music is insatiable which is clearly evidenced in his emotive, technical and detailed compositions.

Here at the Grey Meta HQ, we consider this album a masterful piece of work. If released under the names of any of the electronic music deities of our time, 'masterpiece' would likely be used in countless abundance to describe this visceral journey. There is no denying the influence of Autechre or Aphex Twin embodied within “Memory Programme”. There are dashes of their influence in RetunCodeZero's album, but that's all there are, splinters of the finest fragments of electronic music influences.

It stands completely solitary, sounding like no one other than its creator. It glides perfectly alongside classic albums such as 'Draft 7.30'; not once seeming out of place or under-par. It's a style that is almost impossible to pull off completely, 'organic-machine-glitch-music-with-soul'.

Seen as a glimmer of light, all four of us at Grey Meta consider “Memory Programme” to be a shimmer of hope during these most challenging of times whilst we are shrouded in the midst of a cold North European winter.
Our advice to you is, put this on your biggest speakers, light the Netflix log fire, crank up the radiators, place that Hoffman tab you’ve been saving since the muddy Glade Festival on your tongue, hug your pillow and drift off grinning whilst bathing in this epically lush opus.

Greg said about his debut album, ‘“Memory Programme” is a very personal album for me as it was written at a turbulent time of transition in my life and in the universe. I truly believe that I have been given a second chance and that there are things at play we will never fully understand, can ever comprehend and intricacies we can never fathom. This album fell out of the sky after a series of events that have changed my life forever. I would like to thank all the following people in no particular order: All the Grey Meta team, Jacqui for putting up with me, Shaun Gillon for the artwork, Simon Brooks, GJSC crew, George Atkins and Karl Sveinsson @80Hertz and James Stiff’

ReturnCodeZero’s live performances consist of a Eurorack modular system, a variety of hardware and Ableton Live. His DJ sets are 100% vinyl. He hosts a monthly online radio show for ARP radio, playing the best in Electro, Techno and IDM, showcasing unknown producers alongside established artists. Catch the show the first Sunday of every month 7pm-9pm (BST).

He also runs Good Vibrations Sound Design, a studio specialising in cutting edge sound for digital media, broadcast, gaming and film.

Thoughts from Shaun on his inspirations for the artwork...

"It was the first time I have created a piece for an album. I listened through many times, seeing the tracks individually and then stepping back in my mind I could see them all being part of the same entity. With different complex rhythms reaching out in varying angular forms, layers of noise covering the beats like skin, and synth melodies shining throughout as purple beams which felt like the soul. Having learnt about the experience that led to Return Code Zero writing the album it makes sense that I could see the whole body of work travelling through a dark space whilst carrying light."

about

Grey Meta UK

A record label that blurs the boundaries of auditory and visual art. A home to experimentation and innovation in electronic music and the interpretative visual art it inspires. Conceptualised by a family of misfits looking to give expression to the inexplicable, seeking to make sense of the slippery spaces that exist, coiled between music and art, sight and sound, machine and heart. ... more
